Five Questions, Sixty Seconds, A Real Number
The dispatcher's phone rang at 6:47 yesterday morning — Mississauga GC, two crews showing up at 7:30, didn't know which bin size he needed and didn't have a price. I told him to skip the call, hit the calculator, answer five questions, the number would be in his email before his coffee was cold. It was.
This is why we built the Quote Calculator. Field Notes No. 2.
What the five steps actually decide
The wizard asks bin size, jobsite location, wood content, expected weight band, and your service tier. Each input collapses one variable our old phone quote had to guess at. Bin size and location set the base logistics number. Wood content and weight band decide which CIRCIL Levy column you fall into — clean, amber, or mixed. Service tier picks between spec and contract rate. Five inputs, one number, no follow-up call.
Why a form beats a phone call here
A phone quote is good for nuance and bad for speed. By 7 AM on a Tuesday, every dispatcher in the GTA is already on a call. If your GC ops manager has to leave a voicemail and wait for a callback before he can hand a price to the project lead, he just lost forty-five minutes to a contractor who priced his job at the calculator and moved on. The phone line is still there — we answer it — but the calculator runs while the line is busy.
What the number on the screen means
It's a real working price, not a placeholder. Same CIRCIL line, same base logistics, same dispatch fee as a phone quote. Net 30 if you're on terms, card on file if you're not. If your load classifies clean at the bin, the levy line on your invoice is the levy line the calculator quoted. If it ends up mixed, the spread shows up there too — no surprise additions, no recalculations after the gate.
What we do about it
The Quote Calculator is at the top of every product page. If your job has a non-standard footprint or you want a contract-rate review, the 833 line gets you to dispatch directly. Either way, the math is the same number.
