Three Things Your Dispatcher Does Today That the Crew Portal Closes

The Brampton dispatcher answers the same three questions thirty times a week. "Did the manifest get faxed to the receiver?" — twelve times. "Can we schedule a pull for 5 AM tomorrow?" — eight times. "What's the PO on the load you dropped Tuesday?" — ten times. Add the calls his counterpart at the GC's office answers for the project manager and we're past forty hand-offs a week, all of them costing somebody fifteen minutes. The Crew Portal V1 closes those three lanes. Field Notes No. 3.

Manifest hand-offs

Once your load classifies and gets sealed, the manifest is generated, signed, and parked in the portal. Your receiver, your audit lead, and your office can pull the PDF whenever they need it — no fax, no email round-trip, no "did you get it?" call. Every classification has a timestamp and a kernel hash, so when an audit shows up eight months later the chain of custody is right there in the same record.

After-hours scheduling

The portal accepts pull requests until midnight. We dispatch on the next business cut-off, and the request shows up in your account the same second the dispatcher confirms it. If you want a 5 AM pull for tomorrow and you're working at 11 PM tonight, you don't need to leave a voicemail and hope. The confirmation arrives in your account before you close the browser tab.

The missing-PO problem

Every load in the portal carries the PO field from the moment you request the bin. If your AP team needs to reconcile what dropped on a specific date, the search bar finds it in two seconds. No "let me check with the driver" — the driver already entered it at the gate, on the same device that signed the classification.

What we do about it

Crew Portal V1 is live for existing accounts. Setup is one form — your account team will send you the link. If you're not on a Spike Bins account yet, the Quote Calculator is the entry point: get a number, get a load, get a portal account.
